(Port) Wine of the month September 2024: Sandeman Late Bottled Vintage Port 2011
I have always lectured that you should only put away vintage port, but there are definitely small exceptions, such as the Sandeman LBV 2011. Bottled in 2015, it impressed directly after bottling and also immediately communicated a certain ageing potential to Port wine lovers. Tasted again thirteen years after the harvest against the other top representatives of this segment from more recent vintages: Still violet reflections in the opaque, dark red colour. Harmonious red berry fruit (mainly cassis, raspberry and cherry), tobacco, chocolate and white pepper on the balanced nose. Noticeable tannins and very well-supporting acidity on the palate. Lots of pressure. Medium-long finish. Leave another five years in the cellar. 17/20
